Applications

The James E. Dutton Foundation does not have a formal grant application form. Grant requests should be written and include a cover letter with full contact information including contact name, address, phone number, and/or email address. Requests with no contact information may not be considered.

The request should also include a description of the requesting organization and its mission, a detailed description of the project or program for which the grant is being requested, along with the grant budget and schedule. The request should also include a description of how the success of the project/program will be measured and evaluated.

Grant periods may extend over two or more years dependent upon the request. In addition, we will require a brief report upon completion of the project on the results achieved by our grant.

Over the years the Foundation has observed a noted increase in both the quantity and quality of grant requests submitted for our review. As such, the Foundation has developed a policy to generally award grants to individual organizations no more than once every 3 years. If an organization has not been awarded a grant within 3 years and is unsuccessful with a current request, they may continue to submit proposals for the Foundations review.

Although the Foundation has no geographic boundaries for it awards, the Foundation has primarily supported organizations located in, or benefiting, Wisconsin and the local Midwest area.  It is a rare exception for the Foundation to award a grant outside of Wisconsin.
